NEW CHAIR HAS POSITIVE MESSAGE FOR BUSINESS 

 

Jennifer Jones

 

On June 28, 2010, Jennifer Jones, President and CEO of Media Street Productions, was sworn in as the Chair of the Board of the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce for the 2010-2011 year.

Jones thanked outgoing Board Chair Jim Drummond for his hard work and initiatives for the 2009-2010 year and also recognized the strengths of the Board’s diverse skill set and expertise in contributing to the Chamber.

 

Also welcomed is the Board’s newest member, Mark Egbedeyi-Emmanuel from Union Gas, who serves as the Chamber’s Chair of Environment and Energy Committee.

WERCC looks forward to working with Jones to help build an even stronger business community for Windsor-Essex.

Mark Carney

Governor of the Bank of Canada

In 2010 the Time magazine named the Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. The list includes 24 other world leaders including U.S. President Barack Obama.

Mark Carney played a key role in steering Canada's economy through the global downturn and in international efforts to overhaul rules governing financial institutions. 

Mr. Carney spent 13 years with Goldman Sachs before entering government service.

Mr. Mark Carney will be the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber's Distinguished speaker on Thursday, September 30, 2010. More details to come soon.

WEBINAR: MITIGATING CURRENCY RISKS FOR EXPORTERS

If you are you currently doing business in the US, other foreign markets or thinking about doing business abroad, currency changes are a definite risk factor.  In an effort to limit the negative results of currency movement, the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service is hosting a webinar to help companies mitigate such risks.  

This free webinar, Improving your bottom line through better foreign exchange management is on Thursday, July 22 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm and will allow companies to: learn simple tools to manage foreign exchange risk; and learn how to reduce costs related to foreign exchange and hence improve the bottom line.

Don’t forget toregister before the deadline of July 21, 2010.

 G20 SUMMIT, MAKING THE CANADIAN BUSINESS VOICE HEARD

 

As the leaders of the G20 gathered in Toronto for their summit, a smaller group representing the business communities of the G20 countries also met to offer their advice on the issues on the leaders’ agenda.

 

The B20 group, as the business meeting was called, was comprised of about forty CEOs and heads of business associations who had been selected by their governments to serve as a sounding board in advance of the leaders’ meetings.

 

B20 delegates met with Prime Minister Harper and with the G20 finance ministers to share their advice.
