CITY OF WINDSOR TAX POLICIES 2008 - STATUS QUO PREVAILS
April 21, 2008, The Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce addressed the City of Windsor's 2008 Tax Policy recommendations by sending a letter to the Mayor and Windsor City Council.

As a result of the report from city administration, council opted to keep the same taxation policies as in the previous year. No changes were made to shift the tax burden among business classes or against residential rates.

In its letter to the Mayor and City Council the Chamber outlined its long standing principles of transparency, fairness in taxation and competitiveness, and reiterated its request for reductions in the tax ratio, the measure of difference between the business and residential tax rates. The Chamber also stated it will engage its members in a review of taxation priorities in the upcoming months.

CANADA - US BORDER PROGRESS STILL TOO SLOW: CANADIAN CHAMBER

U.S. President George W. Bush, Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper and Mexican President Felipe Calderon

Ottawa, April 22, 2008 - After the Security and Prosperity Partnership leaders' summit concluded the Canadian Chamber of Commerce characterized the progress as still too slow. The Prime Minister addressed the "thickening of the border" as a growing concern in trying to achieve both economic and physical security.

At the border and trade related summit the leaders put special emphasis on the Windsor-Detroit crossing, placing the commitment to fix this key border infrastructure as a top border priority for both Canada and the U.S.
